Nuno's Guide to Lisbon: Goan Restaurants

Tentações de Goa

One of the early references to Goan cuisine in Lisbon, tucked away in the backstreets of Mouraria, Tentações de Goa is a local institution with a long list of regulars and devotees.

Cantinho da Paz

Nuno’s favourite in the city, Cantinho da Paz is the second iteration of the family-run Velha Goa, both of which have been home to many a Mendes family meal. Make sure you try the Bebinca, a beautifully dense, aromatic dessert of egg yolk, jaggery, and fresh shredded coconut.

Zuari

This no frills, completely charming hole-in-the-wall serves some of the best samosas you can find in the city. Founded by Orlando Rodrigues in 1978, they’re still cooking the same recipes that he brought with him from Goa – via Mozambique – in the early 1960s.

Jesus é Goês

A bustling establishment run by chef Jesus Lee, named for his devoutly religious mother and a father who was a huge fan of Bruce Lee. Although Jesus is sadly no longer with us, he was an incredibly talented chef, and his restaurant remains a must-visit for Nuno when he’s in the city.
